When we opened our doors here in downtown Morehead City NC we had a clear vision for our tattoo studio – The Harbor Rose @13th Street Tattoo. We wanted a true traditional tattoo street shop. We wish to provide the best quality tattoo work in the area along with affordable rates. A place to honor and to share our trades history. We want to share our love of tattooing with everyone who comes through our door, to provide our clients with tattoos that are meant to stand the test of time along with an atmosphere where all who enter feel welcome and want to return. Out of the many tattoo shops open these days we wish to set ourselves apart from the ordinary, to offer something a little more special, which in part for us means going back to our roots.
We have decided to do something very unique in order to offer up a little bit of tattoo history for our opening. We are offering our clients the unique opportunity to collect some of the finest vintage American Traditional tattoo designs at a steal for a limited time only. We will be rotating various collections of vintage tattoo flash. These pieces will include full color. The tattoo designs range from the size of a business card to as large as a 5X7 photo. The American Traditional tattoo is made to last. Super clean, super bright and bold images that hold up well over time. These tattoos that contain history within themselves along with some pretty marvelous stories. The collections include images such as ships, anchors, mermaids, sparrows, eagles, mom hearts, USMC Devil Dogs, tigers, pin-ups, skulls, snakes, roses, and so much more. These collections will come from many different tattooers, all of whom we regard with great respect.
For the month of January and February we have a wonderful collection of flash from the 60’s and 70’s from an amazing tattooer, Pat Martynuik, who was known as the “Picture Machine”. Pat was probably one of the most dedicated tattooers who ever lived. Pat aka “Picture Machine” was known to spend 7 days a week at work, working very long hours each day tattooing and painting flash. Pat worked with many great tattooers – including the legendary Doc Forbes, Huck Spaulding, and Lyle Tuttle to name a few. Pat opened a shop in 1976 called “Picture Machine” which remains open to this day in San Francisco, CA. In 1989 Pat Martynuik passed away, in the shop in the middle of a tattoo. Below are just a few of the recent tattoos from The Picture Machines Tattoo Flash Collection that is currently available now thru the end of February.
